Holiday Homework

Since our main focus is writing, it would be a great support to help your child to continue this during the break!

Here are some fun ideas to keep the writing exciting for your child:

Salt Plate Spelling - Pour salt on to a plate and have your child spell words with their fingers (sight words or CVC words - cat, bat, hat, sit, hit, bit)

Shaving Cream Spelling - Put shaving cream on to a plate/table and use it to spell words with fingers

Water coloring - Do some painting to promote writing.

Meet Blue Barry Bono Jr.

. . . Our Room 4 Beta Fish! The whole class took a vote to see what our fish's name would be! Bono, the monkey character from stories early in the year won by nine votes. BUT some students thought it sounded great to say Blue Barry Bono Jr. and it stuck!!

Thank you to Patrick's family for giving our class a pet!

Halloween Parade - Wed. October 31

Our annual Halloween Costume Parade will be this Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. It would be great if you would like to dress your child in a school appropriate costume and come watch them walk around the blacktop. This will be Kindergartens first all-school event so it will be a great experience for them.

*If your child will be dressing for the parade, please bring an extra change of clothes for after the parade.

Fall Carnival - Friday November 2nd

Emory School's Fall Carnival will be held on Friday, November 2nd. The Fall Carnival is a great experience for all children and is a great way to support your child's school.

The carnival takes a lot of support from not only Emory staff, but from parent volunteers to make it a success. Please take this opportunity to think about your interest in volunteering to help in different areas. One responsibility of our class will be to help operate two booth activities. I will send out a paper notice for parents who are interested in volunteering on Monday, October 22nd.

Thank you to those parents that have already shown support by donating candy for the event!

Emory Blue Slips

At the beginning of the year, there was a paper that outlined the school-wide positive behavior support plan. One of the ways that the school promotes behavior is through Blue Slips. While I do not give out a lot of them during our class time, students do receive them during other times of the day when other staff or teachers "catch them being good." The slips are collected and counted for each student. They do get prizes for their slips. I wanted to remind you so you can help support your child to earn Blue Slips outside of the classroom - while in other classes or out on the playground at recess and lunch time. Here is a picture of the Blue Slip.

Welcome Back!!

It was a great first day back from Fall Break!

We introduced the new letter of the week - Letter Hh! Hattie the Horse was our helper. We will continue to work on patterns in math. I'm also excited to share that we are starting our new Science unit on animals this week.

We celebrated five birthdays today so it was a busy afternoon! It was great to have all the classmates stand in front of the class and the class sing happy birthday in a whisper voice to the birthday boys and girls!

Homework: The wrong cover page was copied for the homework so if it is too difficult for your child, please just focus on the activities that you feel is best for your child.

Reminder: Wednesday is an Early Release day, so remember to pick up at 1 p.m.

Thank you!

Reminders

The Alphafriends CD is a GREAT support to what we do in the classroom. In order to become a reader it is essential that your child learns their sounds. Regular listening to this CD will help the sounds become automatic!

Also, personal jewelry and belongings should be left at home. Necklaces and bracelets are becoming distractions in the class and it will also prevent your child from losing their items. I appreciate all of you support in this matter! Thank you!

Great First Week

Students and Families,

Thank you for an amazing first week of school! I am so proud of all of you for the work you put in the classroom. We had a lot of fun learning about Bono the monkey and him being a star student following the rules. You all did a great job helping him figure out how to be safe, responsible, and respecful in and out of the classroom! We also learned new songs for the Days of the Week and the nursery rhyme, "Hickory, Dickory, Dock." This week will be even more fun as we learn about different stories and work on writing our name and numbers. We'll also focus more on learning our sounds using the Alpha Friends song.

Remember, some goals this week at school will be to keep our hands to ourselves, stay in line, and following directions. These all help with keeping the learning fun!

Parents, homework folders will be going home on Monday. Thank you for making sure your child is prepared and ready to learn! I will also be getting in touch with parents who indicated they might be able to volunteer in the class. I hope to do so by the end of this week. Remember, in order to volunteer, you must have a current TB test on file in the office.

Have a great week!
